Focus Skill: Nonfiction Features
We will be reading various Gail Gibbons books and identifying the features found in nonfiction text. The vocabularywords for this week are: Headings (Titles/Subtitles/Topic Names), Maps, Photographs, Captions, Types of Print, Graphs, Cut-away, Comparisons, Labels, Diagrams, Table of Contents, Index, Glossary, Close-ups.
AR Logs and Reading Logs:

AR Logs and Reading Logs:
Please have your child fill out the reading log each night after they have read 20 minutes. Parents need to sign and date the reading log each day.
Writing
The children will create a character sketch based on a picture set during the time of the Great Depression or Dust Bowl.

We will focus on possessive nouns this week.

Spelling
Unit 3 Lesson 4: suffix -ly; -y; -ment; -tion
This week's words are: sandy, dirty, sunny, cloudy, tricky, lately, slightly, truly, exactly, constantly, placement, statement, government, agreement, enjoyment, action, operation, education, migration, celebration
When studying these words, please talk about the meanings of each word.
