Focus Skill: Questioning
We will continue reading the book Stone Fox by
John Reynolds Gardiner. As we read the book together, we will discuss
vocabulary that is confusing and new to the children. There will be a reading
comprehension and vocabulary test at the end of the unit. We will also read nonfiction selections about Wyoming,
potato farming, and Samoyed. Here are some vocabulary words we chose this week: palomino, hitched, rodeo, proceeded, irrigation, inspect, harvest, mature, concerned, strong box, mare, bushel, acre, determined, hind, plow. The test on this book next week.
Reading Logs:
In your child’s folder you will find a
pink reading log. Please have your child fill it out and you need to initial it
nightly after they have read 20 minutes. Your
child should be at 100% of his/her reading goal in AR by the end of this week.
Writing
We're using our Writer’s Notebook to
create personal narratives. We will be learning how to edit as we write, and
rehearsing storytelling and leads.
Language Skill
We will be learning
about singular and plural nouns.
